Clinical Academic Careers: Scotland

In Scotland, the UKCRC/MMC Academic Careers Subcommittee recommendations have been taken forward as the Scottish Clinical Research Excellence Development Scheme (SCREDS). This is a flexible scheme which comprises several integrated components:

Up to 125 Medical Clinical Lectureship training posts available at any time. These are mainly funded by NHS Education for Scotland and are open to candidates at any point in their training after Foundation level.

Clinical Research Fellowship training posts funded by the Chief Scientist Office, Universities, charities and other organisations which lead to a PhD or MD.

Additional Clinician Scientist/Senior Clinical Academic Fellowships offered competitively at post-Certificate of Completion of Training level and funded by the NHS or external funders.

More information on SCREDS is can be found in the Chief Scientist Office newsletter.
