HEFCE launches 2008 Clinical Senior Lectureship
programme
28 November 2007
The 2008 round of the Clinical Senior
Lectureships (CSLs) scheme has now been launched by the Higher
Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). This scheme forms
part of the ongoing implementation of the UKCRC/MMC integrated
academic training pathway for clinical academics.
Up to 40 CSLs will be available in 2008, which
will run for five years and can be taken up any time between 1
August 2008 and 31 July 2009. The funded posts are designed for
fully qualified doctors and dentists with an excellent or
exceptionally promising track record of clinical and academic
activities (research and teaching) in any area of clinical medicine
or dentistry. Appointments will involve significant research
activity and some teaching in addition to ongoing clinical
responsibilities.
This is the third round of Clinical Senior
Lectureship awards. The CSLs are intended to encourage high
quality, well qualified clinical staff to pursue research interests
alongside their clinical practice, in order to strengthen the
national research base in medicine and dentistry.
The CSLs are co-funded by HEFCE and the NHS
through local NHS Trusts. Awards will be made based on advice from
an advisory panel of clinical experts. The closing date for
applications is Friday, 1 February 2008.
