Health Research Classification System now online

    6 March 2009

http://www.hrcsonline.net/ has been launched to support users of the UKCRC Health Research Classification System (HRCS).

The HRCS is a bespoke system for classifying the full spectrum of biomedical and health research - from basic to applied - across all areas of health and disease.

The classification system has been used for two major analyses of UK health research funding by the UKCRC Partners in 2006 and 2007. The analyses included data from the major government and charity funders of research and provided a clear view of the landscape of health research funding in the UK.
HRCS Online has been designed as an information resource to support those who want to learn how to use the classification system, as well as an online reference manual for those already using it. The website is fully searchable and provides access to all the codes and categories of the HRCS. It also includes guidance topics, contextual help and analysis tools.

Launch of HRCS Online follows a recent international workshop to promote wider use of the classification system outside the UK with attendees representing 26 health research organisations from across Europe and beyond.

HRCS Online can be accessed at: http://www.hrcsonline.net.

Further information on the analyses carried out using the HRCS can be found here.

Details of the international workshop are available here.
