An expert in strategy and corporate governance, Sharmila brings new strengths to AMRC to complement the high-level skill sets already in the organisation. She has a passionate interest in the health research sector. The AMRC feel confident that she will be able to continue and develop the excellent work of the association's previous chief executive, Simon Denegri.

Sharmila has an extensive portfolio of non-executive posts, including board member of the Charity Commission and the audit committee of the Institute of Cancer Research, lay member and deputy chair of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority, and lay member of the Human Tissue Authority. She has also served on the boards of the Olympic Lottery Distributor and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
