Topic-Specific Research Networks
Part of the UK Clinical Research
Network consists of a managed set of Topic-Specific
Clinical Research Networks across England, which work closely with
the Primary Care Research Network.
The TCRN consists of a number of Local
Research Networks which provide the dedicated research staff and
other resources, working on the ground with the clinical teams, to
facilitate participation in clinical studies.
Each Topic-Specific Clinical Research Network
has established Clinical Studies Groups which have an important
role in developing a balanced portfolio of high quality clinical
research studies. The groups also provide a primary route through
which new studies are developed.
The Topic-Specific networks are:
Primary Care Research Network –
England (PCRN – E)
The UKCRN has also created a Primary
Care Research Network in England. This network brings together
many different primary care practitioners including GPs, dentists
and health visitors, and works closely with the Topic-Specific
Clinical Research Networks to support research in primary care.
The main goal of the network is increase the
number of patients recruited or involved in clinical trials and
other well designed primary care studies. It comprises eight
clinician-led Local Research Networks, providing comprehensive
geographical coverage of England.
