The UKCRC Partner organisations are
collaborating on a programme of work designed to re-engineer the
clinical research environment in the UK. Strategic direction
and oversight is provided by the UKCRC Board with broad stakeholder
input into key issues. The Partnership is supported by a jointly
funded, independent Secretariat and has a mixed model of working,
where activities are:
- Led and administered by UKCRC

The Office for Strategic Coordination
of Health Research (OSCHR)
In 2006, Sir David Cooksey conducted a review
of the institutional arrangements for the public funding of health
research in the UK. An outcome of the review was the establishment
of the Office for Strategic Coordination of Health Research (OSCHR)
as a joint office of the Department of Health in England and the
Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills.
OSCHR’s role is to work with the Medical
Research Council and the National Institute for Health Research to
develop a single integrated Health Research Strategy. Discussions
with the Devolved Administrations are ongoing to ensure that OSCHR
maintains a UK-wide focus.
OSCHR’s overall mission is to facilitate more
efficient translation of health research into health and economic
benefits in the UK. Maintaining a close working relationship
between OSCHR and the UKCRC will be key to delivering the changes
needed to create a world-class health research environment in the
UK.
